ZIMÁNYI SCHOOL 2018

Dear Colleagues,

We would like to invite you to participate in this year's workshop that aims to summarize the developments of 2018 in high energy heavy ion physics, with particular attention to the new data emerging from the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), SPS and J-PARC. We will discuss results from other high energy nuclear and particle physics facilities of the world, most importantly lower energy colliders, exploring the nuclear phase diagram (with special attention to FAIR and NICA). Another important point of the School is to discuss important new results in hydrodynamics, flow and femtoscopy. One of the main aims of the School is to encourage interaction between the theoretical and experimental community. A slightly overlapping list of topics of the School includes (in alphabetical order):

• Effective QCD theory/model approaches
• Elastic scattering and diffraction (experiment+theory)
• Femtoscopy (experiment+theory)
• Flow and hydrodynamics (experiment+theory)
• Gluon saturation and electron-ion collider (experiment+theory)
• Heavy flavor and quarkonia (experiment+theory)
• Intermediate energies (FAIR, J-PARC, nuclear physics)
• Jets and high pT probes (experiment+theory)
• Magnetic field in heavy ion collisions (experiment+theory)
• Photons and dileptons (experiment+theory)
• QCD at non-zero temperature and density
• Search for the QCD critical point (experiment+theory)
• Strongly coupled gauge theories (beyond SM, AdS/CFT)
• Vorticity and polarization in heavy ion physics (experiment+theory)

We are looking forward to the continuation of this series and hope to welcome our colleagues and friends in Hungary.

Location: The school will be held at the Wigner Research Center for Physics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. It is located on the "KFKI campus", in building no. 3. (see a map of the campus here, more details here). As currently planned, on Wednesday the school is held at the Lágymányos Campus of the Eötvös University, in the "Northern Building" (see a map of the campus here, more details here).

Talks: Participants are encouraged to present their recent results in contributed talks. Please register on our website, giving us your name, institute and the talk title, and other logistical details. If your contribution was not discussed with us before, please email us a brief abstract.

Students (BSc, MSc, PhD included) are particularly encouraged to attend the school (and they may apply for a waiver of the registration fee).

Participation fee: 100 EUR or 32000 HUF, it covers the basic organization costs, the coffee breaks and contributes to the remaining expenses of the school (one participation fee also covers the participation of one student). Lunches and dinners are not covered by the registration fee. Participants are suggested to use the Wigner Institute cafeteria (building 23 and 11 on this map). On the Eötvös University day, participants may have lunch in the restaurants or cafeterias around the campus. In particular, we suggest Science Building A.

Conference dinner will be held Tuesday evening in the Bajai Halászcsárda Restaurant, it is included in the participation fee (see a map and instructions on how to reach the restaurant here).

Registration is requested by filling in the registration form on this webpage. Additionally, you are invited to join the event's Facebook page and invite friends and colleagues there.

Proceedings (journal publication): we received a kind offer from the MDPI Journal Universe. Universe is a peer reviewed journal. Full papers based on the talks should be extended to the size of a research/review article (For research article, 50% new material should be added). They encourage the authors to publish their research results in as much detail as possible. There is no restriction on the length of the papers. Deadline is March 31, 2019. Our papers (arriving before the deadline) will be published for free, online only, open access. We hope that many speakers will contribute to this Zimanyi 2018 volume.

Housing: We recommend staying in Hotel Mercure Buda, as there is a bus from there to Wigner. We also managed to get a group price of approx. 64 EUR for single rooms and 70 EUR for double rooms, including breakfast. The Csillebérc Youth Hostel unfortunately closed its operations in 2017. However, it is also possible to stay in Ibis Budapest City Hotel, they offers a price in the range of 40-50 EUR. Please notify us during registration if you would like to use any of the above opportunities. Also note, that for the hotel reservation, we need your explicit reservation before October 26, after that, availability is not guaranteed. Participants may of course solve their housing in Budapest on their own, links to Budapest hotels are provided here.
